Residency for Tuition Purposes

Why does residency matter?

Being a resident of Utah qualifies you to pay less in tuition. For information on how to establish residency or apply, check out usu.edu/admissions/residency

Students have the option to return home for the summer, but they miss out on qualifying for resident tuition. Additionally, all students, no matter what their residency status, only pay in-state tuition during the summer and they don’t have to pay student body fees. This is a great way to save money and graduate faster.

The Law

According to Utah law, if a student who has not previously acquired domicile in Utah enrolls at a Utah system of higher education (like Utah State), the student must reside in Utah for 12 continuous months and meet the other criteria below or qualify for an exception in order to gain residency for tuition purposes. Learn all the criteria at usu.edu/admissions/residency.

Deadlines
